About Friends of St Mary's
Helping to care for our Church building.
The Friends were founded in 1998 to offer financial support for major projects and repairs connected with the parish church.
Our aim is to ensure that this wonderful building standing in the centre of our village is enjoyed by all for generations to come.
When the Friends were founded, the major project at that time was the repair of the bell frame and the re-instatement of the peal of bells which had remained silent for 90 years.
The new peal was successfully rung for the first time in 2000, and was an important part of the celebrations for the Jubilee and the Royal Wedding.
The Parochial Church Council proposes a major project for which it needs financial help to the Friends. We then do our best to raise the necessary funds. We are independent of the Parochial Church Council.
Our latest project was to install a toilet inside the church and we are delighted to confirm this is now complete.
All these projects need support and encouragement from us, the villagers and other friends. To this end the Friends committee has set up a membership scheme, with a modest annual subscription of £10 for a family, and £7.50 for single membership. When a major project looks like taking off we shall keep members of the Friends informed and make a special appeal, as we did for the bells.

We have packs of greetings cards available for sale at the village shop. They cost £5 for a pack of six, three cards of each picture and they are blank inside for you to use as you wish.
